For ages there was a fight for transformation of humanity, to enlighten it or drown in obscurity. And the most important in this struggle was beings essence, valuable because of its characteristics - degree of purity.

All Pure Ones want to alter that essence, Unearthlies and Celestials by making it purer, Infernals and Shades by fouling it as much as possible, Ravers and Pristines by changing it into something altogether different.

Essence tranformation is important for one reason, it brings life to the Pure Ones. It is in fact, regardles of its state, the material of which they are made of, not only an energy but an source of life. By altering it to their needs Pure ones fight for their existence. This is why they use others or even sometimes sacrifice part of themselves.

But because they cannot cease or be made to cease existing it all in the end simplifies to condition of that existence. No being of light wants to live in absolute darkness, no being of darkness will withstand eternal light, and when either of them dissapears there is no border left for shadow to thread on. That's why eternal struggle is unresolvable, the losing side will allways try harder, and if it can't neutrals will jeopardize efforts of the winning one.
