Romantically Apocalyptic Webcomic
by Vitaly S Alexius
Charles Snippy finds himself lost and alone at the end of the world. He makes a wish for a friend and meets Zee Captain, an eccentric lunatic luminary, who drags him on an adventure through the eldritch, deadly, questionable and limitless post-apocalyptic world of tomorrow, a place where Goodness makes the rules and everything has purpose and passion.
~A post-apocalyptic, dark comedy webcomic that I've been working on since 2005 by myself at first and then with friends from all around the world.

This deserves five stars just for the gag of this weird fellow chanting Alouette, gentille alouette. Also, as a french native myself, I have to admit we often say 'Ze' instead of 'The' lmao.
Joke aside, I literally loved the art and colorful style of these beautiful images. They are the perfect mix between detailed photos, and artistic representations of this not-so-dark world. This original style is refreshing, even today in 2022.
If this collaborative work was an actual webcomic with boxes and dialogue bubbles, this would be a massive hit. I'm sad I found this hidden gem just today, more than fifteen years after its creation.
I'll most likely finish reading it tomorrow, but I couldn't go to sleep without leaving this treasure 5 stars.
I first encountered Romantically Apocalyptic on a meme website, and thats was more than 10 years ago, and it became one of my major inspirations to pursue being an artist! Thinking back on it, I was too young to really comprehend any storyline - so now I've re-read it with a bigger brain, there's more to love about it!
It was way ahead of it's time then, and it's still a masterpiece today! 10/10 would crawl out to the fallout
Romantically Apocalyptic is a tasteful mix of satire, comedy, sci-fi and pure madness.
Vitaly is very talented artist, who created his own little universe, drew handreads of outstandingly beautiful depictions of post apocalyptic world. All the while, being true to the spirit of his creation all this years.
New version of the story makes some things more clear, adds new illustrations, new characters and new layers of complexity .
As a bonus new version is set in the same Universe as Armorer and Technomagica (other Vitaly fictions)

I read the old version of Rom.Ac on the original site some months ago, and when I realised it had reached a standstill it felt uncomplete. The characters are unusual but prod at one's curiosity the longer it goes on, and the environment and plotline are something else entirely that reminds me of some of the Diskworld novels!
The way the art is created is amazing and puzzling at the same time, it makes more sense that an AI had created most of the backgrounds, the art and possibly some of the story; I look forward to seeing where this tale leads to and where it shall end, if ever!
I love all Vit's work and this could be considered his magnum opus. An absolute thrill ride of surreal and unique ideas tied down by gorgeous art and excellent pacing. The surrealism and dreaminess of the over all plot makes the individual more human moments that much more intense. Nobody could write a universe quite this fantastical except Vit.
This series has a great overall story, with many intricate details woven into it. The sensical nonsense of it is quite intriguing, as you piece together the events of what happened to get each these details to all fall into place. In addition, the humor of this series is quite odd but extremely amusing nonetheless.
I discovered this comic in 2012 in a computer lab of a school and instantly got hooked on the weirdness of it all. This is a bizzarely unique story with amazing art to complement it leading to a unique experience. The characters have their own backstories and motivations that drive them from one plot point to the next that range from trying to survive to utterly nonsensicle at times but keep you invested.
This story has been years in the making and looks like it can go on for many more years and some panels are downright desktop wallpaper worthy due to the sheer style and detail brimming with awesomeness. Going into joining Snippy on his journey, I could've never guessed where it could take him and how things tend to seem odd at first, but tie together in a way that perfectly makes sense later.
The art itself is on another level, capturing emotion and detail to create realistic environments, but isn't afraid to mix it up when it benefits the story, which with a story as wild as this one can only heighten moments from serious to downright nonsense.
Thank you Vitaly and team for creating what I can call, without a doubt, a masterpiece. And if you're a reader looking at reviews to decide whether you should read it or not, please do yourself a favor and dive in instead of putting it off. This is a ride you don't want to miss.
I absolutely love Romantically Apocalyptic! The art is gorgeous, the story is fascinating, and the characters are lovable. I highly recommend this webcomic to anyone who enjoys post-apocalyptic stories, romance, or just wants a good laugh.
The writing is witty and the characters are so well developed. I also love how the story is unpredictable.
The style of the artwork is unique and really helps set the tone of the story. I'm really impressed with how the artist is able to convey so much emotion through the art. It's one of my favorite webcomics and I can't wait to see what happens next.
The story :
I remember when I first found this comic, I thought I'd be in with a rather simple tale of a man surviving in the (Rather futuristic) wastes, but then it hits you, incoherent plots, random events that seem meaningless but might be indicating some major details, or just images that seem like they're from a dream, (which they might actually be), and therein lies the draw, attempting to put together what few pieces of coherent and organized events into an actual timeline, which might all exist in a larger scale universe with lore that slowly reveals itself through mild hints and background locations. So if you're interested in reading this comic, then know there will be a place for attempting to brainstorm what the cryptic comics convey, and possibly coming out with a conclusion.
The art :
It is of quite good quality, of the cybergothic genre, used with a mixture of special effects and real life objects (making a real life cross using cardboard and then editing it to becoming a scene where someone is being crucified). Plenty of work was put into it, and it didn't go to waste.
The music :
Created to fit the theme of the comics, and it succeeds at accomplishing its aim, it is also of solid quality, and assists in keeping the reader engaged through longer and more mundane scenes.
Overall conclusion :
10/10, would get mindblown again.
Overall Score: 10/10
This story follows the adventures of Charles Snippy, Dead Zone Tour Guide and the self proclaimed "Last Sane Human on Earth", and his attempts to survive in the barren wasteland covered in technological monstrosities that resulted from the near-extinction of the human race.
At least, that's how he sees it.
Luckily he's not the only survivor, although maybe it would be better for his sanity if he was. He joins up with Zee Captain, who seems undisturbed by the collapse of civilization and keeps going on about fairies, magic, and the like.
Style Score: 10/10
The art is one of the best parts of the story, almost every single panel makes for excellent computer wallpaper, they have a nice mix of realism and blurriness that I really like.
Story Score: 10/10
Excellent storytelling.
It reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, regularly dealing out laughs and nonsensical situations in ways that seem like they make perfect sense with the way they are explained
Grammar Score: 10/10
It has no unintentional spelling or grammar errors I can remember.
Character Score: 10/10
Each character is very unique and interesting in their own way, their personalities contrast with each other and interact in interesting ways.
TL:DR
Great comedy, Interesting Characters, Exellent art
